About
Karen
Karen
grew up in the Yarra Valley in Victoria. Her family moved into
inner suburbia Melbourne, in her early teens. She left school at 16
to start an apprenticeship as a chef. She quickly found
herself a job working in some of Melbourne’s top restaurants. By 22
she was burnt out and looking for more out of life than 16 hour
days in a hot, smelly and aggressive environment.
Karen’s
interest in food and helping people inspired her to look for a new
career in an area that closely involved both elements. She decided
to return to school to study Naturopathy. Naturopathic study
involves core health sciences subjects, extensive nutritional and
herbal medicine study, along classes on food as medicine, flower
essences and homeopathy.
During
her study Karen worked as a personal care assistant helping people
with disabilities, work she found incredibly rewarding.
She also
spent time working as dispensary and clinical assistant in a large
natural medicine clinic here in Melbourne.
Since her
graduation, Karen has worked in private practice and in 2008 was
blessed with being offered a position working for Dr (Med) Zenon
Gruba, a pioneer of natural medicine and wholistic health in
Australia.
Karen is
dedicated to keeping up her professional development and regularly
attends seminars and conferences on natural medicines and their
applications in a wholistic approach to healthcare.
