New study: Breast cancer deaths
lower in areas without mammograms
2005 study by Nordic Cochrane Center in Copenhagen and the
Folkehelseinstituttet in Oslo found that
- mammograms did not contribute to any reduction in breast cancer
deaths.
- deaths from cancer were lower in areas where women did not have
mammograms.
Dr Gruba's Comments: More
and more evidence form all over the world is revealing the
short-comings of Breast X-rays. Self Breast Examination and
Ultra-sounds of the breast are being found to be a safer and more
reliable method. But it always makes more sense to prevent
breast cancer than to have to treat it once it has becme
established.
